Nordstrom Promotes Sam Lobban to Senior Merchandising Position

Nordstrom has elevated Sam Lobban to a new leadership position in merchandising.
Lobban is now EVP/GMM for women’s and men’s clothing and the entire designer category. In this position, the designer will assist with the product strategy and vision across these critical segments, Nordstrom said in a statement. Lobban has most recently been SVP of design and New Concepts, a role he held until 2020.

“We have a lot of confidence in Sam and are fortunate to have him on our team,” said Pete Nordstrom, president and chief brand officer. “He is a great retailer who operates with a focus on the customer. This offers a wonderful chance for him and the team he is supporting.”

Lobban began his career in retail in the sales department at Selfridges and was promoted into various sales positions before becoming a part of the team of Mr Porter, where he directed the strategy for designer capsule collections at the retail store. In June of 2018, the retailer hired him to join Nordstrom as the vice president of men’s fashion, to oversee merchandise and work with teams in marketing and design and development of content, store layout and the experience of shopping for menswear via Nordstrom’s new [email protected] pop-up shop initiative.

While at Nordstrom, Lobban opened the 17 New Concept shops, including Dior, Fear of God, Black_Space, Union, Noah and Thom Browne. Lobban was promoted to SVP Designer and New Concepts in 2020, overseeing all strategies for designer merchandising and creative campaigns across the women’s, men’s, and children’s.

“Sam is an innovative merchant with strong creative and strategic vision, deep industry experience and meaningful connections,” added Teri Bariquit, the chief merchandising officer at Nordstrom. “We are excited for Sam to carry forward his strategic approach in designer to men’s and women’s apparel as we aim to deliver the most relevant products to our customers.”

The promotion comes just a few weeks after the retailer announced two other changes to its executive team. On July 1, Nordstrom elevated Deniz Anders from SVP to Chief Marketing Officer. In addition, the retailer appointed Dick’s Sporting Goods executive Nina Barjesteh as its president. Private label company.
